Donald Ray Hickerson

We often refer to a classic biblical quote during a time of grief. I am not a particularly religious person, but there is wisdom to be found in scripture given us by wise persons from our past. In the book of Ecclesiastes chapter 3, we find memorable quotes that help us understand the role that time plays in our lives. “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens…”

During the time that I was fortunate enough to work with and eventually become friends with Don Hickerson, he found the time to help me resolve software problems by using hardware techniques and oscilloscopes. We both enjoyed working on timepieces as a hobby, and he found the time to teach me how to rebuild mechanical clocks. Don always had time to help others, and he helped me to understand that being humble, unassuming and having inner peace can be a gift to yourself and others around you. I am not sure that I succeeded in reaching those goals, but he took the time to help me understand that I should try, and I continue to do so. I shall miss Don.

The friend that you took the time to share your quiet yet powerful strengths with wishes you Godspeed, Don Hickerson.

Video – REI Circle of Recognition Hawaii Trip 1987

Steve has uploaded a video to YouTube that you can watch here.  It says 1986 Circle of Recognition on the Video, but the trips were always taken the following February. The video is 33 minutes long, but the Circle trip is only about 20 minutes.  The other balance is a video we made internally of the sales kickoff that took place in Charlotte, N.C. shortly after we bought Lundy, which was based there.  The quality of the video is not always great due to poor lighting, but some funny moments as well.  Tons of fun things in the Hawaii video.

We are sure you will enjoy watching it.

Thanks, Steve!
